Synopsis: On the surface, Koudo Ikusei Senior High School is a utopia. Students enjoy an unparalleled amount of freedom and this ranks highly in Japan. But reality is less than ideal. The four classes, A to D, are ranked in order of merit, and only the top classes receive favorable treatment.
Kiyotaka Aonokuji is a student in Class D, where the school throws the worst. There he meets the antisocial Suzune Horikita, who believes he was mistakenly placed in Class D and wants to climb all the way to Class A, and the seemingly friendly class idol Kikyou Kushida, who aims to make as many friends as possible.
While class membership is permanent, class ranking is not; Students from lower ranked classes can move up the rankings if they score better than the top ranked students.
